Culpeper County Public Schools was proud to host the annual county-wide Math 24 competition on Thursday, March 27, 2025. The event brought together some of the division’s brightest young minds to engage in friendly, fast-paced math challenges designed to sharpen their computation skills and deepen their understanding of number relationships.
The Math 24 game promotes mental math fluency by challenging students to manipulate numbers to reach the target number—24—using a combination of operations. This year’s competition welcomed enthusiastic “mathletes” from third, fourth, and fifth grades at all six elementary schools, as well as 6th grade students from both middle schools. This year marked the first year since 2020 that the middle schools have participated, thanks to the support of Mindy Brooks-Smith, who coached the teams at both middle schools and Sycamore Park Elementary.
The competition consists of three rounds, and after the first two rounds of intense competition, the top eight scorers advanced to the final round, where they faced off to determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Each participant showcased impressive problem-solving skills, perseverance, and sportsmanship throughout the event.
CCPS extends congratulations to all of the talented mathletes who participated. Special thanks go to Floyd T. Binns Middle School for graciously hosting the event and to the CCPS Gifted and Math Departments for organizing a successful competition.
