The board also took a moment to honor the memory of James R. "Bo" Smith III, a dedicated member of the CCPS Maintenance Department who would have reached his 40-year service milestone this year. Smith, known for his hard work and commitment to maintaining school grounds across the division, sadly passed away on February 2, 2025.

Smith was a 1983 graduate of Culpeper County High School and Carver Piedmont Technical School and soon after began his life-long career with Culpeper County Public Schools. Metzgar stated, “Everybody knew Bo, he was everywhere, all the time. He was a great person to be around, and we want to honor him this evening.”

Smith’s presence is deeply missed, but his impact on our schools and community will never be forgotten.  “In remembrance, we want to say thank you,” Metzgar concluded.

The Culpeper County School Board extends its appreciation to all CCPS employees who work tirelessly to foster a positive and enriching learning environment. We are proud to celebrate these dedicated professionals and honor the memory of those who have made a lasting difference.
