CULPEPER, VA – The Culpeper County School Board and Board of Supervisors joined Virginia Senator Bryce Reeves and Delegates Nick Freitas and Mike Webert for the annual Joint Legislative Brunch on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Culpeper Technical Education Center (CTEC). The event brought together key decision-makers to foster collaboration and address local concerns impacting the Culpeper community.
The agenda included introductions and acknowledgments from the legislators, County Administrator John Egertson, and Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) Division Superintendent Tony Brads. Legislators shared their thoughts on the upcoming 2025 legislative session. This was followed by time for the County Administrator and Board of Supervisors to address topics of interest for the county, and for the School Board and Dr. Brads to discuss priorities for the schools.
Discussions during the brunch focused on topics vital to the community's future. The Board of Supervisors highlighted concerns about road improvements, preserving local government authority over land-use decisions, and the school funding formula. The School Board emphasized issues such as the Virginia Department of Education's (VDOE) new accreditation model, reevaluating the Local Composite Index, local licensure of teachers, and the importance of fully funding the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) nutrition program.
Both boards praised the meeting as a positive and productive opportunity to collaborate with state legislators. “These discussions are essential to ensuring that Culpeper's voice is heard at the state level,” said Superintendent Brads. “We deeply appreciate our legislators’ willingness to engage in these conversations.”
The Culpeper County School Board and Board of Supervisors extend their gratitude to Senator Reeves and Delegates Freitas and Webert for their continued partnership and dedication to addressing the needs of the Culpeper community.
