Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) has been recognized for outstanding communications efforts by the Chesapeake School Public Relations Association (CHESPRA) in its annual Communications Contest. We received an award in the electronic category for our e-newsletter, The CCPS News, which is sent weekly to all CCPS staff members.

The CHESPRA Communications Contest celebrates exemplary communication achievements across public school districts in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Awards are presented in three categories: print, electronic, and campaign communications. CCPS’s award-winning e-newsletter, The CCPS News, distinguished itself among entries from across the region for its engaging and informative content.

Sent every Friday at noon, The CCPS News includes a variety of sections designed to keep staff informed and connected to the school division. A news section highlights the achievements and positive developments across CCPS schools, while an employee information section provides essential updates and resources. A preview of upcoming events also helps keep staff aware of key dates and opportunities within the division.  The newsletter also includes a Photo of the Week contest for staff to send in great photos each week.

CCPS DIrector of Communication Laura Hoover accepted the award on behalf of the school division at an awards ceremony held during the CHESPRA Fall Conference in Harrisonburg, VA November 6-8, 2024.  “It is so exciting to be recognized in the CHESPRA Communications Contest for the first time,” she said.  “Our goal with The CCPS News is to foster a sense of community among our staff and celebrate the great work happening throughout our schools. This award would not be possible without our School News Team or the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in creating this resource.”  In addition to the CHESPRA Awards Ceremony, the School Board recognized the award at its regular meeting on Monday, November 11, 2024.

CHESPRA’s recognition underscores CCPS’s commitment to effective and engaging communications that support its mission of providing a positive, connected environment for staff and students alike.
