Only one chapter adviser per state is honored with this award annually, making Butcher’s selection a remarkable achievement.

"I am continually inspired by the dedication of FCCLA’s Chapter Advisers," remarked Sandy Spavone, Executive Director of FCCLA. "Recipients of the Spirit of Advising Award lead by example, embodying FCCLA's values through their steadfast commitment and dedication to their students. Their contributions are invaluable, and they serve as true ambassadors for the organization."

Last summer, Butcher was featured in the local news for being selected as a recipient of the highly competitive Fulbright-Hays grant. In this program, she embarked on a journey to Livingstone, Zambia, where she engaged in a comprehensive study of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and its impact on the local and global economy. The educators spent an immersive month in Livingstone, collaborating with local educational institutions, industry leaders, and community members to gain invaluable insights into this vital field.  Butcher was also featured this Fall on the CCPS and Culpeper Media Network program, Accent on Education, for all of her accomplishments in her teaching at Eastern View.

Butcher will be recognized and presented with the FCCLA Spirit of Advising Award at the 2024 National Leadership Conference, which will take place in Seattle, WA. The event, attended by thousands of FCCLA members, advisers, and supporters, will celebrate Laura Butcher’s outstanding achievements and contributions to the FCCLA community.
