Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) is pleased to announce that Mr. Neal Deane will be the new Executive Director of Finance effective June 3, 2024. He will replace Jeff Shomo, who is retiring after thirty years with CCPS.

Neal is a Certified Public Accountant and comes to CCPS with more than 30 years of experience in the field of business finance, including eight years as the Chief Financial Officer of Merchant’s Grocery Company in Culpeper and four years as the Town Treasurer and Director of Finance for the Town of Culpeper.

A Culpeper native and Culpeper County High School graduate, Neal earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. He has served on the board and the audit committee of the UVA Health System and served as treasurer of the Rotary Club of Culpeper. Neal and his wife Lori have been married for 28 years. She is employed by Davies, Barrell, Will, Lewellyn and Edwards Law Firm. They have one son, Zachary, who is attending Christopher Newport University. In his free time, Neal enjoys cycling, hiking and various other outdoor activities.

When asked about his new position with CCPS, he stated, “I am humbled and honored to be given this opportunity to serve the school system that not only educated me, but also my family. Culpeper is a great community and I look forward to serving CCPS for many years to come.”
