Driver Education

The Code of Virginia  22.1-205 and SB78 require a 90 minute Parent/Teen component to the classroom instruction.  CCPS will provide 6 opportunities for parents and teens to attend the presentation during the 2024-2025 school year.  Families can choose to attend any of these sessions, even if they are not hosted at a student's home school. Parents are permitted to opt-out of the presentation; however, student attendance is mandatory.  Students cannot receive their DEC-1 card until they have successfully completed classroom training, which includes the Parent/Teen requirement.  Dates for 2024-2025 school year:

Registration: The program information and registration links for each session can be found in the documents below.

Session Reminders: Doors will close promptly at 6:30pm, and no further admissions will be permitted once the presentation has started.  If parents choose to opt-out, students must bring the signed opt-out form to the in-person presentation or they will not be admitted. All opt-outs for online presentations must be turned into the classroom Driver Education teacher at least 2 school days prior to the presentation. For the fall session, students must turn in opt outs no later than November 4, 2024. For the spring session, students must turn in opt outs no later than April 7, 2025.

Fentanyl Awareness

 CCPS provides age-appropriate, school-based substance abuse prevention instruction to students in the division. In accordance with the Code of Virginia §22.1-206.1, CCPS also shares specific fentanyl educational resources developed by the VDOE and the Department of Health with each student in grades 9-12 within the first two weeks of the school year.

Risks of Tobacco and Nicotine Vapor Products

CCPS provides age-appropriate, school-based tobacco and nicotine vapor product education to all K-12 students in the division.  In accordance with the Code of Virginia §22.1-273.3, CCPS also shares educational information to parents of students regarding health dangers of tobacco and nicotine vapor products.
