In a vibrant celebration of Fun at Work Day, three Culpeper County elementary schools went above and beyond to bring joy and excitement to their staff on Friday, January 26, 2024.
Emerald Hill Elementary School: A Price is Right Extravaganza
Emerald Hill Elementary took the celebration to a whole new level with a Price is Right-themed day. Throughout the day, Principal Tori Gelbert and Assistant Principal Maci Lane led teachers and staff through eight rounds of Price is Right games during their planning periods. Teachers and staff all had a chance to play the Price is Right Game, One Bid, where they had to guess the price of an item without going over. The winner then competed in a second game, where their team could help them by shouting out prices to help them win more prizes. Each participant left the first round with a Price is Right themed cookie and a ticket for a chance at even more prizes that were raffled off after school at the Showcase Showdown. After school, the eight winners from throughout the day got to spin the giant wheel and two staff members advanced to the showcase showdown, giving them a chance to win the ultimate prize – a standing desk, chair, printer, and more.
Round 1 winner, Jill Cushman, a 2nd grade teacher at Emerald Hill, said, “I never win! I have fun at work everyday, but the Price is Right Games and winning with the help of my team, definitely made the day extra special and fun.” Another winner, Jessica Allison, said, “Our administrators are amazing. I can not thank them enough for the opportunity to participate in The Price Is Right. From the exciting games, to the awesome prizes, it was truly a fun day at work!”
The Price is Right games brought smiles and laughter to the school, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved. Emerald Hill would also like to thank all the local businesses and families that donated towards the amazing prizes that were awarded.
Sycamore Park Elementary School: Human Scrabble and Finish The Lyric
At Sycamore Park Elementary (SPES), Fun at Work festivities included Human Scrabble and Finish the Lyric. Teachers and staff formed words in a giant human Scrabble game, fostering teamwork and creativity. The three top winners with the highest points were Dana Stone, Ashley Weaver, and Tracey Schaffer. Musical energy thrived during the "Finish The Lyric" TikTok challenge, where participants showcased their 90s chart-topper expertise in completing the lyrics of the song "Waterfalls" by TLC. Notably, Ms. Teia and Ms. Haun delivered outstanding performances.
SPES second-grade teacher Rebecca Dodson said, “Playing Scrabble on Fun Friday was absolutely crazy! I had a blast!” The activities at Sycamore Park Elementary added a musical and collaborative touch to the Fun at Work Day celebration.
A.G. Richardson Elementary: Joining the Fun with Human Scrabble
A.G. Richardson Elementary (AGR) also joined the celebration with a round of Human Scrabble, emphasizing the unity and camaraderie among the staff. The large-scale word game allowed educators to not only enjoy the playful competition but also reinforce the importance of teamwork and collaboration. AGR administration gave prizes to all who participated.
