Culpeper County Public Schools (CCPS) is pleased to announce that Sycamore Park Elementary School has been awarded the 2022-2023 Virginia Department of Education Exemplar Award for Continuous Improvement.
In a letter to Division Superintendent Dr. Brads, Lisa Coons, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, said, “I am pleased to congratulate Sycamore Park Elementary for being selected to receive the 2022-2023 Virginia Board of Education’s Continuous Improvement Award.” She concluded the letter by saying, “On behalf of the Virginia Department of Education, I am elated to recognize school staff, students, and the community for providing high expectations that have resulted in positive educational outcomes for all students.”
Sycamore Park earned this award because the school demonstrated an increase in the combined rate for two or more student groups in reading and math for each of the past three years (the three years are 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2021-2022), with a total increase across the three years of ten points or more.
Sycamore Park Principal Derek McWilliams commended the school’s hard-working staff and students, and said, “It’s great to see their hard work getting positive results!”
