In a harmonious celebration of musical talent, the Tri-County Band, featuring middle and high school musicians from Culpeper, Fauquier, and Rappahannock counties, took center stage on Friday, January 26, and Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Eastern View High School (EVHS).
The event showcased over 200 dedicated young musicians in a middle and high school band. The middle school group came from Culpeper Middle School (CMS), Floyd T. Binns (FTB), Rappahannock County Elementary School and the four Fauquier County Middle Schools. The high school students came from EVHS, Culpeper County High School (CCHS), Rappahannock County High School and the three Fauquier County High Schools. Students are nominated to participate in Tri-County Band by their band director.
The middle school segment of the Tri-County Band had the privilege of being led by Tommy Doss, a Nationally Board Certified Educator and the band director at Louisa County Middle School. Doss, known for his expertise and passion for music education, brought a wealth of experience to guide the young musicians through the intricacies of their performance.
For the high school ensemble, the baton was passed to Derek Ramsey, the Director of Bands at Mills E. Godwin High School. Ramsey, a Longwood College friend of Culpeper County Public Schools' band directors Adam and Rebecca Roach, infused his enthusiasm and expertise into the performance. The connection between the Roach duo and Ramsey added a personal touch to the event, creating a sense of camaraderie and shared musical history.
The musical journey began on Friday morning when the students arrived at Eastern View High School and were handed the sheet music, setting the stage for an intense and immersive rehearsal period. With dedication and focus, the young musicians embraced the challenge of mastering the pieces in a relatively short time frame.
The culmination of their hard work was evident on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm when the Middle and High School Tri-County Bands took the stage for a spectacular concert. The audience was treated to a mesmerizing display of musical talent as the young performers showcased their skills and the seamless collaboration fostered during the brief but intense preparation period.
The Tri-County Band's performance not only highlighted the musical prowess of the students but also emphasized the importance of collaboration and dedication in the world of music education.
