Farmington Elementary School is located in the southwestern corner of the town of Culpeper. The school grounds consist of about ten acres and the facility is approximately 65,000 feet. Approximately 500 students presently attend the school. The students range in grade from Preschool to 5th grade. The majority of students live inside the town limits and most ride buses or are driven to school.

Farmington was constructed and opened in 1965 with renovations (air conditioning added and asbestos removal) to the existing building in 1989. A new addition to the school was completed in 1994. This construction added 8 new primary classes, a computer lab, a new media center, a gymnasium, and stage/music room. A countywide redistricting in 1997 changed the school population from a K-3 school to a K-6 configuration. The existing teachers were required to readjust their teaching assignments to accommodate older students and new content. In 1998, Farmington began SOL state testing and has successfully aligned the curriculum to meet the challenge of cumulative testing in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Another countywide redistricting took place in 2002 when our new county middle school opened and our 6th-grade classes were moved to the middle schools. All elementary schools in Culpeper, including Farmington, have changed to a K- 5 configuration.

Over the years, Farmington has had as many as 10 mobile units and 680 students on campus. In the winter of 2013, the Culpeper County School Board approved a four-classroom modular Annex for the building. This added much-needed space to accommodate our growing population.
