Sycamore Park Elementary School Information

Sycamore Park Elementary School is a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school serving approximately 590 students. The student body is economically, racially and ethnically diverse. In addition to long time Culpeper residents we have many new students from Northern Virginia and around the country. We also have children from around the world with our immigrant families representing over 15 different nations.

The school building was built in 1960 with an addition of a gym, library, office, and twenty-five classrooms in 1991. The school has 2 computer labs, 5 mobile laptops labs containing 24 computers, and wireless internet throughout the building. Every classroom also has at least two computers connected to the Internet. The classrooms are equipped with televisions, DVD players, and mobile LCD projectors. Telephones are also in each classroom. The school has a large playground with grass and asphalt play areas and various pieces of equipment for children of all ages.

The school currently has 29 regular education classrooms for grades K-5, and 2 pre-k classrooms. The average class size is 20 students. There are 5 resource classes that students take on a six-day rotation- art, library, music, computer lab, and physical education (twice every six –days).  Sycamore Park also offers after-school clubs including art, chorus, dance, and guitar for upper elementary students. Before and after daycare is also available through Culpeper County Day Care, (www.kidcentralculpeperva.com).

Sycamore Park Elementary School students take part in a variety of field trips during their elementary school experience.  This includes trips to professional plays, local museums, farms and orchards, historic Jamestown & Williamsburg, Virginia, the national monuments in Washington, D.C., and the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD.

The Sycamore Park staff seeks parent involvement in the education of students through grade-level parent meetings with teachers, individual conferences, volunteering in classrooms, or through P.T.O. events such as the annual fundraiser, specials at local restaurants, and family movie nights in our gym. The school staff also sponsors a Fun Fair for students and their families near the end of the school year.

The school recognizes the achievement of students in grades 1st -5th each quarter by holding STAR assemblies in which students receive awards for academics, behavior, effort, music, art, and physical education. We also have a “Citizenship Club” in which students are asked to join if they demonstrate the traits of good citizens by being respectful to others, working hard in their classrooms, and by being responsible for their behavior.

The Sycamore Park staff is pleased to serve you and your child. If you ever have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, please do not hesitant to tell us what we can do to help you -- as we are your partners in the education of your child.
